SMOK RPM40 Pod Review A Real Review of the “Real Pod Mod”
Vaping technology has made huge advancements over the past decade. We’ve gone from the first ego Cigalike E-Cigs with single-use tanks, to full-on box mods with touchscreen and Bluetooth technology. Now that pod devices have been on the market for a few years it looks like they’re starting to evolve and advance as well.
Which brings us to the SMOK RPM40, a Pod device that is so incredibly powerful it can reasonably be used to vape sub-ohm freebase nicotine as well as salt nic. What’s more, with the new RPM coils you can get more flavor out of a pod device than you ever have previously!
But how well does it function in the long term? Keep reading and you’ll find out!
The Looks
When I first got my hands on the SMOK RPM40 I was taken aback by the unique shape and size of it. For a pod device with a 1500mAh battery I was expecting something the size of a SMOK Stick or a small box mod. But the RPM measures less than 100mm tall and only 25mm wide, making it a contender among mini sub-ohm devices like the tarot nano.
There’s a wide variety of colors to choose from when shopping for your RPM40. With 4 carbon fiber variants and 4 splash resin designs there’s sure to be an option that’s right for you!
On the front of the device is a sizeable TFT color screen, all your favorite vaping details like puff counter and current wattage are displayed here in immaculate crisp LED colors.
Getting into the shape of the device, I really enjoy the slightly rounded corners of this cuboid design from SMOK. The beveled edges allow the RPM40 pod to sit comfortably in your hand during long vape sessions with no discomfort whatsoever. The weight isn’t bad either, SMOK did an excellent job of using lightweight materials to offset the heavier 1500mAh battery.
How it Works
The RPM40 from SMOK is by far the most powerful pod device I’ve ever used. Utilizing all 1500mAh of its battery you can push this pod all the way up to 40W with no issues. As a pod device it’s unmatched in performance on every level, from the flavor and the cloud production to its insane 4mL+ E-Liquid capacity and long battery life. The new RPM mesh coils that come with this pod are unbelievably good with flavor production, to the point where I was throwing MAX VG liquids at it just to see if I could get it to gunk up. No such luck, the RPM coil lasted through about 1.5-2 weeks of heavy vaping on sweet E-Liquids before I even noticed a burnt taste.
I’ve been using this as my main device ever since I got it for a number of reasons. Number 1 is that I can get the same flavor and nicotine satisfaction out of the RPM40 as I do from a full-sized box mod with a decent sub-ohm tank and that’s huuuge for a pod device. Number 2 is the size, carrying around a box mod is such a huge hassle and the RPM weighs about the same as a single 21700 battery! I can shove it in my pocket and go about my day without having to worry about a thing.
Not to mention it comes with all the same safety features you’d expect on a box mod like 7 second cutoff time and power lock so the device doesn’t fire while in your pocket.
If you’re looking for a pod device that’s going to last you for years to come then the SMOK RPM40 is perfect for you.
The Bad + The Verdict
So I’m not going to lie to you and tell you its all roses and daisies, there are in fact some issues to point out with the RPM. Because of the massive wattage ceiling and huge wide-bore mouthpiece, there is a slight bit of spit-back at the highest wattages. When using the RPM coil I got great performance across the board, but I noticed the Nord coils burn out much quicker at higher wattages. Not to mention, there’s definitely a little bit of internal leakage with the Nord coils installed.
But even with those faults, if I had to pick a vape device for the rest of my life, I’d take the RPM40 hands down every time. It does salt nic, it does sub-ohm, it does discrete vaping, and it does them all very well. Where else can you get a 40w pod device that tastes better than most sub-ohm tanks?
SMOK truly has changed the vaping world with this new device.
